Frederick W. Galbraith Memorial: Put in in 1923, the memorial is a white granite, semicircular bench
with a big central pilaster bearing a bronze bas-reduction that honors Colonel Galbraith, a commanding officer of the Ohio Nationwide Guard for the duration of Planet War I.
Created by regional sculptor Clement Barnhorn, the aid depicts figures from that war: soldiers, a sailor and a nurse, as well as two angels, all grouped on both aspect of Galbraith, who served as the very first Countrywide Commander of the freshly formed American Legion in 1921.

He led the energy to boost treatment for disabled veterans. One particular 7 days prior to he died in a auto incident, Frederick W. Galbraith Jr. wrote, "The welfare of our country and our comrades -the disabled first -this has been the main problem of The American Legion. In which the welfare of our nation has been involved, in which the hopes and contentment of our disabled comrades have been at stake, the Legion has stopped at nothing at all."
"Fritz" Galbraith was an early top advocate for U.S. veterans wounded on the battlefields in France. He urged Congress to consider treatment of them, and his unceasing endeavours contributed to the eventual development of the Veterans Administration in 1930.
Galbraith also lobbied strenuously on behalf of all veterans for far more financial payment in return for their wartime support. "But there continue being another course of disabled:" he wrote, "the monetarily disabled, who have waited patiently until finally their bodily incapacitated buddies must be cared for. Our following excellent legislative effort will be for them."
His initiatives compensated off. On March 4, 1921 -the initial day of President Warren G. Harding’s administration -Congress appropriated money to construct a lot more hospitals for veterans lined by the War Risk Insurance policies Act.
On June nine, 1921, Galbraith was in Indianapolis to attend a National Finance Committee conference when he was killed immediately in an automobile accident.
