What Makes Minn Kota Trolling Motors Superior

by Garret Voight What Makes Minn Kota Trolling Motors Superior I’ve been around the fishing world for a while… over 20 years, to be more specific.   During that time I have learned a thing or two about fishing and boating equipment. I have also developed some preferences and opinions about that equipment. Some stuff is good and well worth the money spent, and some is just plain crap and not worth the money spent to package it.   This holds true when it comes to electric trolling motors. There are good quality models and there are bad models. There are also big differences between the popular brands of trolling motors. Let me explain.   There are really only a few trolling motor manufacturers in the entire industry. Regardless of what label you see on a trolling motor, it’s made by one of those few manufacturers.   If you have looked for some information, you’ll see that Motorguide Trolling Motors and Minn Kota Trolling Motors are the leaders in the industry when it comes too brand recognition and popularity.   Base on my past experiences on the water, I prefer Minn Kota Trolling Motors and, in my opinion, they’re a much better motor. Here’s why.   Durability – This is one of my favorite parts of the new Minn Kota motors. These motors last, and for a very long time. Under normal conditions, you can use these motors far longer than expected. Even under extreme conditions, they last longer than other motors I’ve used!   Design – Minn Kota has spent a lot of money over the past decade,...
Comparing Motors in Luxury Vehicles

Comparing Motors in Luxury Vehicles

by Michael_Myers Comparing Motors in Luxury Vehicles While it is instantly obvious that a quality engine is the key to a long lasting, efficient and powerful car, few people realize that certain companies are highly regarded for the thought, passion and ingenuity with which they design their automobile engines. Companies like Acura, Buick and BMW invest heavily in the design and manufacture of their car engines resulting in engines that can outlive the rest of the car. While some other manufacturers design engines that literally last a hundred thousand miles at most, Buick, Acura and BMW engine are known to last many thousands of miles without major incident. In the same way that a finely crafted watch is valuable for generations and frequently has many different owners, the engines produced by these manufacturers can stand the test of time and serve several different owners with great distinction. While it is true that you get what you pay for, it is not necessary to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a vehicle with a high quality engine. In fact, BMW has developed a massive international following due to the strength of their inline six cylinder BMW engine which can be found in a variety of different BMW models. This BMW engine is very popular due to its reliability, performance and efficiency. Because of how popular the engine is, it is not difficult to find a mechanic capable of making repairs to it. Not to be outdone by the famous inline six cylinder BMW engine, the k20 Acura engine and k24 Acura engine are making waves in the automotive...
General Motors – Is it Too General?

General Motors – Is it Too General?

by ATOMIC Hot Links General Motors – Is it Too General? How do you feel about the GM situation? Should they just go into bankruptcy and work from there, or should we as a nation keep attempting to prop them up in hopes of them eventually turning a profit again? Or maybe you are just tired of hearing about the giant car company period. Personally, I don’t blame you if that is the case. I just wanted to take some time out to point out something interesting. It is part of the underlying problem with GM in today’s car industry, which is now more global than ever from a competitive standpoint. Yes, globalization is definitely the best and worst thing to happen to the auto industry. I think we all know who has gotten the shorter end of the stick in this international affair.   For example, let’s consider a new car introduced by none other than Hyundai. The 2009 Hyundai Genesis is a car that competes with the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E Class, and Lexus GS among others. It is said to be easily mistaken for a higher end luxury sedan on the street, able to beat a Viper off the line, and has very high crash ratings. But that’s not all folks… this car is priced in the $ 30,000 range.  It is foreign vehicles such as these that are a major contributing factor to the doom and gloom of American auto makers.   Many of these foreign companies don’t offer the type of extraordinary employee benefits that GM handed out in droves and paid the...
Selecting Good Used Outboard Motors

Selecting Good Used Outboard Motors

by ATOMIC Hot Links Selecting Good Used Outboard Motors If you own a boat, what you need to have is a motor, so that you can get to the great fishing place. If you are finding a good second hand motor, read this article to know things to consider.   When buying used, the best thing to do is look for quality name brand; Evinrude, Yamaha, Mercury, and Honda, for example. It is actually better to purchase a more popular brand because they are usually the best quality and come with the best warranties. Check out Consumer Reports for outboard motors. Read consumer’s reviews on Yahoo Shopping. Look around and ask people what they have and why. When you have the whole picture, you are ready to choose your next used outboard motor.   Look at the different accessories you may choose. Some have hydraulic tilt, cable steering, and electric start, all of which simplify using the motor, while others have a pull rope start and a tiller handle for steering and throttle control. Because of these factors, no one piece of advice or article can cover all the possibilities. If you already have the boat, however, you need the compatible motor to your setup. In other words, if you have a steering wheel, or stick type steering system, you will want to buy a motor with a steering cable attachment, and if you have a battery and wiring to an ignition system you will want electric start. On the other hand, if you do not have these features in your boat, it is not practical to buy a...
